Internal obstacles are the obstacles that are generated from within you.. from your mind. Internally generated obstacles might include the following;
- Fear of failure – You don’t strive or push yourself to reach your potential because you are scared to fail. This can be overcome by looking at failing differently. Don’t think of failure as a bad thing. You NEED to fail in order to learn. When you were a baby, did you succeed at walking the first time you tried? No, you didn’t. You kept trying until you did it. How different would your life had been if you had given up on walking as easily as you give up on other things?
- Overwhelm – you have so much on that you don’t know where to start, so you don’t. Feeling overwhelm is a signal. It is a signal to take action. Prioritise, cut out the things that don’t matter and are not important and take action on the things that are important. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time… chip away at your actions and you will get there.
- Loss of focus – In our world’s where so much is going on and there are so many choices, it is easy to lose focus and forget why we want to achieve the things we do. Consistency will overcome loss of focus. Do something everyday or to keep yourself on track. It doesn’t have to be a big action, just something to reinforce your goals. For example, reading your goals list each day is a great way to do this.
External obstacles are those that are enforced upon you from external sources. The solution to these obstacles more often than not lies within our own mind and the decisions we make. External obstacles include things such as lack of money, lack of time, resources that are available to you, and other people’s opinions and negative attitudes. The last couple are especially prevalent. Negativity is all around us, especially in our great country. People don’t like to see others do well and thus they try to bring others down to their level. In most cases, this is exactly where we don’t want to be! The best way to deal with negativity is to shut it out. Don’t let others dictate to you what your limits should be. Surround yourself with likeminded people who are also striving for success, and listen to them and their positive messages.
What are your internal and external obstacles? What is your plan to overcome them?
