I have touched on how the loss of focus can sidetrack us from our goals briefly before. I have suffered from this over the past week or so, and while I have gotten myself back on track, it became very apparent how easy it can be to lose focus and how hard it can be to find it again! I mentioned that consistency is the key to overcome loss of focus. By getting in the habit of doing something every day - or at least on a regular basis – you are able to keep your goals at the forefront of your mind and thus continue to make good progress. The cause of my loss of focus has been a work issue that has been niggling at me. Without going into detail, I have spent a lot of time focusing on this negative issue over the past week. There is a saying ‘where focus goes, energy flows’. This is what was happening to me – by focusing on this negative issue, I was producing a lot of negative energy. Negative energy causes loss of motivation and as I wasn’t feeling motivated I did practically nothing towards my goals.
So, how did I overcome it? First, I had to recognise that I had lost my focus and that I had to do something about it. For me, it was about getting back to basics – I regularly go for a walk in the mornings and go through a routine which gets me primed for the day. During these walks I think about my goals and why I want to do them. I hadn’t been doing that for the previous week, so I made myself get out of bed at 5.00am and get back into it. This had an instant effect for me in that it reinvigorated me to focus on my goals and why I want to achieve them. Focusing on the ‘why’ helped me redirect my focus back to the positives, not focus on the negative stuff that was going on. When you recognise that you have lost focus, do those things that you would normally do to get yourself back on track. Remind yourself of why you want to achieve the goals. Where focus goes, energy flows...
Have you lost focus recently? What can you do to regain that focus and get yourself back on track? Why do you want to achieve your goals?
Have an awesome week!
