I’m sure we have all come up against brick walls in our reach for our goals from time to time. Some of these brick walls seem impassable, and there ends the path to the goal. We fail because we can’t seem to get past the brick walls.
The brick walls come in different forms. However, in most occasions the problem is rarely due to lack of resources, but is due to lack of resourcefulness. When we talk about resources, we are talking about things like time, money, people etc.. When we are talking about resourcefulness, we are talking about using our brains and grey matter to overcome the obstacle that is preventing us from achieving our goal. In essence, if you want something bad enough, you will find a way to get it done.
Sounds simple doesn’t it? If it was, we would never have a problem would we? So what stops ups becoming resourceful? Here are a few reasons why we don’t tap into our ‘resourcefulness’ to our full potential, and some solutions to overcome these problems…
It all seems too hard –
See it for what it is. Is it really that difficult to achieve? Break the problem down into logical steps and work through it.
It challenges our comfort zone too much –
This one comes down to fear. Ask yourself, “what is the worst thing that could happen?” More often than not, our fears come down to a fear of failing.. is that such a bad thing? Learn to ‘learn from failure’. You need to push those comfort zones to grow. Embrace the feeling of fear, and use it for ‘fight’ rather than ‘flight’!
To overwhelmed to find a way forward –
Write down all the things that are overwhelming you. Get them on paper. Highlight the things you can get done in a couple of minutes and do them. Get them out of the way. Look at what’s left, and highlight the important things that you need to get done. Start at the most important, and keep working at it until it is finished, or in a state that you can move onto the next thing.
Laziness, don’t want to do the work –
WAKE UP! You don’t have to be motivated to take action.. You just have to start. Motivation often follows. Just get in and get it done!
They don’t believe it is possible –
Suspend disbelief… What if your life depended on you finding a way to do this? What if someone was holding your kids for ransom and you weren’t going to get them back until you found a way to achieve it? I’ll bet you can think of a dozen ways to make it possible. If the mind can conceive it, and in your soul you believe it.. you will find a way.
Lack of creative thinking -
Brainstorm Brainstorm Brainstorm! Throw out your ‘judgemental’ mind, and just put down as many possible ways that you can get it done! Don’t hold back, don’t worry if it sounds stupid. Just put it down. When you’ve got a list at least a page long, go back through it and highlight the best ones… You’ll just about always come up with a great new idea using this technique.
Go the Saints in both games this weekend! I hope you have a great long weekend! I certainly plan to!
Have a good one guys,
