Well the Goalworks Challenge officially kicked off today. For those of you who aren’t aware of the challenge, you can learn more about it here in more detail, but as an introduction the challenge involves setting and achieving goals over a 12 week period in the following areas;
1. Health
2. Wealth
3. Relationships
4. Career/business
5. Self Development
6. Hobbies
7. Contribution
For the area of ‘health’ all challenge members must commit to a sustained 12 week effort to transform their physical fitness and wellbeing. The health goal is the primary goal for the challenge. For all other goals, these can be shorter goals that don’t require as much effort to complete.
Over the past week I have undertaken a ‘conditioning week’ in the area of my health goal to get a feel for the exercise and diet routine. I can honestly say I have not been as sore as I was after Wednesday’s gym for a long, long time. On Thursday my biceps were so sore I couldn’t bend my arms properly. By Friday, my chest was so sore I could hardly turn the steering wheel on my car (yes, we do have power steering). By Saturday, the pain had kicked into my triceps… I couldn’t straighten my arms properly.
I am following the ‘Body for Life’ program for my challenge as it is simple to follow and doesn’t take much time to commit to. I think I may have gone a little too hard for my first gym session so this morning I tried to ease myself into it with a bit more warming up. I am sore again already and can feel another sore couple of days coming on.
My first aerobic sessions have been a challenge too I can tell you. I haven’t done a great deal of running of late, and the way the program is designed, you have to really push yourself. You know that feeling when you are breathing in boiling air??... I felt sort of like that after the first sessions. I am not really looking forward to my session tomorrow, but I know I will feel good afterwards.
I will be posting more about the challenge during the next 12 weeks and will be sharing stories about some of the challenges faced by people taking part along with some of the wins and laughs we have along the way.
Cheers,
Brett
