Well, I am now over half way through my Challenge and into week 7. I took some measurements tonight for my fitness challenge to compare against where I was at at the beginning of the challenge. The results so far are that I have:
- decreased my waist by over 7cm (fat)
- have added 1cm to my arms size (muscle)
- have added 1.5cm to my calves (muscle)
- have added 3.5cm to my chest (muscle)
- have added 2cm to my quads (muscle)
My weight is down 1.5kg from where I started. I feel much fitter.... as a matter of fact, I am feeling great! So much more energy. I am still really enjoying the program and the exercise. To date I have only missed on exercise session that I haven't caught up on.
I am still finding my cardio workouts tougher to get excited about than the gym sessions. I have found I have been doing a lot of mental talking to myself during the cardio sessions. When I feel like quitting I use the chunking method, and only concentrate on the next 100 metres, or the next 50 rows etc. I was running the steps at the Merewether baths the other morning and I was ready to let myself off the hook and stop after 15 minutes to run on the flat ground for a while. I had reasoned with myself that I had done a good session and that I just had to finish with a nice easy run. Then for some reason I thought of Kurt Fearnley and how he did his training for the Kokoda track walk up and down a couple of flights of stairs for hours on end. I knew then that I was being a bloody pussy... so I kept going to the 20 minute mark and finished it. I have to admit, it felt good to push that bit harder.
I also have to admit, that I have cheated myself with the diet a couple of times in the past week. This was due to lack of preparation more than anything (and the fact my wife was away for the weekend so I had to do my own cooking).. however, it is no excuse! I am looking to get back on track with this and really push it home to hit my target goal.
For those of you who are doing the challenge, keep up the great work! Keep going, finish strong!
